Chi siamo

Il progetto Coccole è nato nel 2002 con uno scopo preciso: arrivare là dove le grandi NGO non arrivano, e portare nelle case di accoglienza e negli orfanotrofi del sud-est asiatico un aiuto concreto ai bambini vittime di pedofilia e turismo sessuale.

A volta significa materiali per la scuola, computer, giocatoli, a volte vestiti, letti, materassi, cucine e attrezzi per far da mangiare, qualche volta la costruzione di nuove stanze, e sempre farmaci indispensabili per la cura e la sopravvivenza dei piccoli.

Ho scelto sin dall’inizio di non lasciare o inviare denaro ma di occuparmi di ciò che serve verificandolo in loco e acquistandolo in loco, anche per dare una mano all’economia di zona che stanno diventando sempre più povere, fattore che purtroppo favorisce l’incremento dello sfruttamento dei minori. Una scelta che credo abbia contribuito ad ottenere la vostra fiducia: senza il vostro aiuto questi 20 anni di viaggi non sarebbero stati possibili e Coccole, partita come un progetto tra amici, negli anni ha raccolto il sostegno di aziende e di un numero di amici sempre più grande.

Non vi nego che non ci si abitua mai a quello che trovo laggiù. Anche se il viaggio per raggiungere posti spesso quasi irraggiungibili è molto impegnativo, ogni volta la fatica più grande è trovarsi faccia a faccia con il silenzio assordante di quei bambini.

Faccio sempre tutto quello che posso. Ne ho in cambio la guarigione di molti di loro, la gratitudine dei monaci e di chi si occupa di accoglierli e crescerli, e a volte addirittura un loro sorriso. Quando parlo di guarigione intendo medica, non so dirvi se mai quei bambini potranno scordarsi ciò che gli à accaduto, ma ho verificato con i miei occhi che un gioco, un paio di scarpe e una maglietta, un letto, una gita su fiume a mangiare il pollo tutti insieme possono cambiare il loro sguardo.

COCCOLE NGO

The Coccole project was initiated 20 years ago by Nir Lagziel, It all started with the idea of bringing children, victims of sexual exploitation or abuse, living in orphanages and care homes in the southern hemisphere, something that would make them smile and feel better.

In practice, toys, stationery for school, PCs, clothing, but also first aid medications and, as they often live in rural areas, also animals. The “Coccole” project has already reached Kenya, Brazil, Burma, Sri Lanka, Cambodia and Laos, always choosing small villages which are often difficult to  reach, and where major NGOs are usually not present.

In the majority of cases, such villages are indicated by friends, physicians and other operators who work there with other organizations.

“Coccole” is a project that started among friends and, with time, has become a not-for-profit organization called Coccole Onlus, sponsored by hundreds of friends and companies strongly believing in the project.

How does it actually work? 

Every year, funds are raised through private donations and the sale, in the Nir Lagziel shop in Via Jacopo dal Verme 12 in Milan, of a t-shirt printed with an image linked to the artistic or mythological traditions of the country involved.

Donations can be made through the Coccole Onlus current account before Christmas, as the t-shirt can become the perfect Christmas gift (the gift box always contains a leaflet describing the project). The funds are used to buy items – mainly medications – in Italy upon request of the staff working onsite, but the majority of these “coccole” (‘cuddles’) are bought directly by Nir Lagziel on the premises.

No cash is given, no intermediaries are involved, everything is totally transparent and all the money collected is used to buy goods for the children.

The journeys, organized during the Christmas holidays, usually start the day before Christmas.
